Do not stand at my grave and weep

I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning’s hush

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry;

I am not there. I did not die.

우리 동창들 생각하다 보니 Schubert “Das Leben ist ein Traum” D. 269 가사와 같다 할까요;

Das Leben ist ein Traum,

Man merkt, man fühlt ihn kaum;

Denn schnell wie Wolken ziehn,

Ist dieser Traum dahin.

Wohl dem, der gut geträumt,

Wohl dem, dess Saat hier keimt

Zur Ernte für die Zeit

Der Unvergänglichkeit.

Das Leben ist der Blick

Auf einer Zukunft Glück,

Das jeder haben kann,

Der hier es wohlgetan.

Wohl dem, der nach der Nacht

Des Grabes froh erwacht,

Den nicht die Stimme schreckt,

Die aus dem Schlummer weckt.

Life is a dream

One hardly notices or feels;

For quickly as clouds passing,

Is this dream behind us.

Happy is he who has dreamt well;

Happy is he whose crops here ripen

to harvest for Time

Eternal.

Life is a glimpse

of future happiness

That everyone can have

who has here done good.

Happy is he who, after the night

of the grave, awakens joyfully, -

who is not frightened by the voice

that has awakened him from slumber.

그러나 우리 남은 여생을Gounot 노래 “Boire à l’ombre”(Drink in the shade) 노인과 같이 살았으면 합니다;

 Tu n'as pas connu, même un jour,

 La plaie ardente d'un amour

 Mis en risée!

 Ou si tu l'as eue à vingt ans,

 Du moin, l'as-tu depuis longtemps

 Cicatrisée!

 O vieillard! que je donnerais

 Mes cheveux noirs et mon teint frais,

 Pour m'être acquitté de souffrir!

 Et comme toi, près de mourir,

 Boire en liesse!

 I'm not thirsty, thank you, old man!

 My heart has other cares besides the bottle!

 But you, peaceful and gay,

 Drink in the shade by a little ford,

 Under an arbour!

 You laugh into the pewter cup

 And no one can say

 For sure,

 Seeing your complacent expression,

 Who carved the wrinkles or

 The laugh lines on your face.

 You've never known, even for a day,

 The burning wound of love

 Mocked!

 Or if you did, it was when you were 20

 And the wound was scarred over

 Years ago!

 Old man! I'd give

 My black hair and ruddy skin

 Not to have to suffer any more

 And, like you, to drink happily

 As I wait to die!

Since there is no escape, since at the end

My body will be utterly destroyed,

This hand I love as I have loved a friend,

This body I tended, wept with and enjoyed;

Since there is no escape even for me

Who love life with a love too sharp to bear;

The scent of the orchards in the rain, the sea

And hours alone too still and sure for prayer—

Since darkness waits for me, then all the more

Let me go down as waves sweep to the shore

In pride, and let me sing with my last breath;

In these few hours of light I lift my head;

Life is my lover—I shall leave the dead

If there is any way to baffle death.

If you are with me, then I will gladly go

Zum Sterben und zu meiner Ruh’.                To (my) death and to my rest.

Ach, wie vergrügt wär’ so mein Ende,         Ah, how pleasant would my end be,

Es drückten deinen lieben schönen Hände    If your dear, fair hands shut

Mir die getreuen Augen zu!                          My faithful eyes!
